This is a late 19th-century Persian Qashqai rug, specifically attributed to the Qashqooli subtribe, renowned for producing some of the finest and most detailed weavings within the Qashqai Confederation. The rug features an exceptional herati (fish) design field arranged in a meticulously drawn repeat pattern set against a deep indigo ground, demonstrating superb tribal artistry and precision.
Enhancing its visual and ethnographic appeal, the rug displays delightful animal and bird motifs in the corner spandrels—iconic elements in Qashqai weaving that reflect pastoral life and symbolic tribal tradition. The design is framed by a striking ivory border, filled with stylized floral and geometric elements that provide a luminous contrast and emphasize the quality of the palette.
Woven with fine, lustrous wool and natural vegetable dyes, this example shows the characteristic vibrancy, balanced composition, and high-level craftsmanship associated with Qashqooli work of the late 19th century. It is an outstanding collectible rug with both artistic and cultural significance.
